Melur is a pleasing mix of bronze tiled flooring, redwood tables, brown leather seats and a glass-fronted bar, where expats, students and office workers gather for cheap, cheerful Malaysian eats. Tofu sumbat (deep-fried bean curd served with sliced cucumber and bean sprouts) was a snappy match for its zesty peanut sauce. Sambal udang (stir-fried prawns with a chilli condiment) was deliciously piquant. But mee goreng mamak, a stir-fried noodle dish with a tomato undertone, was let down by overcooked chicken. We finished with bubur cha cha, a typical Malaysian dessert of sweet potato, yam and sago pearls with coconut milk. The drinks list features cocktails, wine and Tiger beer, and service is fleet-footed and cheerful.
