Gelato here is good, but it's the location that really sells Pâtisserie Valerie's gelateria. The impressive glass building has a long glass counter with tall swivel stools running along one window. Customers tuck into colourful bowls of gelato while looking out on to Duke of York Square, as shoppers look back enviously at the ice-cream sundaes. If weather allows, the patio is a relaxing place to sip Italian coffee too.
Portions are generous; three balls looked more like five, piled into an old-fashioned glass. Mandarin sorbet tasted creamy and had a fresh fruity aftertaste, and double chocolate was, indeed, double delicious with its dark chocolate swirls. Pistachio had a creamy nuttiness and vibrant green colour - ask for a drizzle of dark caramel sauce for a real treat.
