Blackboard menus, a pastel colour scheme and mermaids on the mirror - Brady's fish bar is an unlikely seaside getaway in the heart of south-west London. 'Freshest fish, simply cooked' is the mantra, and a chunky salmon fish cake starter - crisp outside, fluffy inside - was a steal at £2.95.

Dark golden, slightly chewy batter gave our cod an upmarket feel, and a grilled-to-perfection haddock fillet was enjoyed alongside dollops of own-made herb sauces, including tangy tomato and basil mayonnaise.

Service was friendly, chips were plentiful, but claggy mushy peas needed a squirt of lemon to bring them to life. English puddings are too heavy to follow fish and chips; our lemon pie was like eating a tub of zesty clotted cream. Finish with a cup of tea instead.

Just had cod and chips from here, cost £20 for two and was very poor quality. Fish was tiny and really dry; definitely not worth the money. If you want good fish and chips go to Fishworks on St Johns Hill.

I have eaten at Brady's many times as I used to live near by. It was the place my husband and I chose to eat on our firs valentines day together and even though we live in North London now we make an annual pilgrimage back to Brady's on Feb 14th. We have never been disappointed with the food here.

Had a super meal at Brady's the other night - always consistently good and so reasonable.
