An unlikely oasis of kitsch, the Chelsea Bun does a roaring lunchtime trade with local workers looking for an unpretentious pig-out without the risk of being spotted, thanks to its location off the King's Road. A cheerful red and yellow awning waves you into a world of plastic marble-effect table tops, vintage advertising hoardings and pumping pop music. The long menu is ignored by most in favour of magnificent all-day breakfasts, piled high with huge quantities of scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausages on beds of potato skins or buttered toast. Before you stagger out, arm yourself with freshly made muffins and cakes at the deli counter to help you make it through the afternoon.
