Corean Chilli - Rob Greig
There's a plentiful supply of inexpensive yet decent Korean caffs in London, and Chinatown's Corean Chilli has become a popular option for students. Don't expect much from the all-encompassing menu, which places emphasis on filling noodles and rice dishes rather than refined cuisine.
You'll find the likes of cheap ramen topped with egg, vegetables or seafood, but also the standard bibimbaps, chigaes and large casseroles. The simple, blocky furniture makes it evident that this is not a place for lingering. Barbecues are also a cut-price version: cooked on portable gas burners rather than on sizzling hotplates set into the table. Kimchi fried rice (part of a lunch deal) came with a fried egg, the creamy yolk offsetting the sharpness of the fermented cabbage (which was a bit too sour for our liking). Fried mandu (dumplings) were deep-fried rather than pan-fried, yet were agreeably grease-free; the accompanying dip was ordinary soy sauce, not the traditional vinegar-tinged version. Soothing yet tangy plum tea is a reliable choice for sharpening the appetite.
Corean Chilli may not be a particularly noteworthy destination, but the food is filling and the service commendably warm for a wallet-friendly pitstop.

Facilities
Babies and children welcome ( high chairs ), Booking advisable ( dinner Fri, Sat ), Separate room for parties ( seats 15 )As i am big fan of korean food and culture i decided to go here! but i was very disappointed---- unhelpful and rude staff! food was okay but too expensive! karaoke is too expensive - £70 per hour.....drink too expensive( small bottle of soju £12)....................in order to make it good/best korean restaurant they have to work really hard they must train their staff, keep food with reasonable price!
By far the worst Korean restaurant I have ever been to and I lived in Korea for 2 years. Unhelpful, argumentative staff, very poor food which would be over priced at half the cost with the ambiance of an A&E waiting room. I recommend you steer well clear.
We ordered kimchi pancake with seafood hot pot. The pancake was soggy, oily then the seafood hot pot wasn't the one we ordered. It was the cod hot pot so I asked to changed but no one apologised! We had to waited for 20mins for it so I expected good food served then watery hot pot appeared. Eventually when I paid for it they gave me the incorrect bill ,on top of that they charged the tip without asking. The card payment wasn't accpet - there was no problem with my card I used after my card in M&S- I need to paid by Cash! Rather stay home!
The attitude of owner is very horrible. When we made the card payment, he added £3 for tips without asking us. He just showed us the total amount and asked to press the pin. We left the extra coins for tips on the table as we didn't realise that he added already. He collected that coins also. So greedy man.
god!!! everyfood is okay but
korean chilli chicken is in my top list...
it sooo good.. in that resturant i only prefer korean chilli chicken:)
I went to this place last night by pure chance, trying to get out of the rain. The waitress was really rude to all of us. Firstly she said "I should ask for a Bibimbap in a stone bowl next time" my mum told the waitress that the food was too spicey and was told she should have read the menu properly when ordering.. she barely ate her food and they wouldn't give us a discount or offer a swap.. finally I asked for a second cup for the green tea and was told I couldn't have one or they would charge us for two drinks.. on the whole I would never imagine revisiting this place.
'If you decide to come to Corean chilli for traditional, basic Korean food, you will find nothing but instant, poorly prepared Korean food (if you know what Korean food really is). '
I totally agree, I went here once when my regular Korean was closed and was very disappointed with the food. It is more 'European' Korean than proper Korean. I won't go back anytime soon.
My first ever taste of Korean food and I was hugely disappointed; definitely not as delicious as drama's and Korean idol's showcase happily. The staff is quite good. We had a girl waitress who was not fluent at English but still tried to understand. She changed our order no problem when we asked to reduce two Kimchi's to one. Jajangmyun was okay as was the Tteokpokki. Samgyeopsal was difficult to chew however the spicy samgyeopsal was really good. Portions were very large but the food was not good.
If you decide to come to Corean chilli for traditional, basic Korean food, you will find nothing but instant, poorly prepared Korean food (if you know what Korean food really is). Everything is overly priced and on top, you will be charged for the seats and tables without any warning unlike any other asian restaurant in the district. I had one particular problem with Corean Chilli, they double charged me (over 60 pounds) and when I arrived back in Germany, I had to followed them up. They hire very incompetent staff, the whole restaurant is quite frankly, disappointing and unprofessional. I suggest to go to another Korean restaurant - anything but here!
