The following information has been provided by a Time Out partner. Time Out cannot guarantee its accuracy. We welcome your views on this restaurant.

Situated in north London in the heart of leafy Highgate, The Rose and Crown has been transformed from a perfectly acceptable gastropub into a comfortably elegant destination restaurant. Inside the Rose and Crown restaurant the décor is new-style classic, with pale walls, wooden floors, smart artwork, columns, with pools of light and soft leather chairs that all come together to create an ideal setting for dining well. Head Chef Gareth Thomas has worked with top chefs like Jean-Christophe Novelli and Gary Rhodes, so it’s no surprise to find classic French influences on his modern British cuisine. Popular dishes include the confit of Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with a Calvados jus, the beef shin burger with triple-cooked chips, and honey-glazed duck breast. In summer, the Rose and Crown’s charming patio is open for lunch and dinner. And Michelin recommends the Rose and Crown, as do we.

I went there with a very special one, on Sunday the 4th of September for Sunday lunch. I have used a “Groupon Voucher” bought for £43 and that would include 2 courses and a glass of Champagne. We received a warm welcome by the waitress. Even we were 1 hour earlier than our booking, she was happy to give us the table by the window that we requested. That already made up our mood as the view by the window on the busy street with the rain falling was fantastic. Warm, simple and elegant interior decoration gives the feeling of a contemporary Victorian restaurant. The placed was full and the crowd was nice and relaxed and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Bread, butter, marinated olives and our Prosseco, arrived shortly after the waitress took our order. The freshly backed bread tasted really good and the green marinated olives as well. Starters arrived promptly and my Guinea fowl and Mushroom terrine tasted unique and very interesting. My girlfriend had the Marinated Octopus salad and she was happy with it. As a main course I had the Confit Pork Belly. This dish was amazing! Everything in the plate was cooked to perfection. Full of flavour and the combination of flavours was just perfect for me. Here I would like to mention the glass of the French Rose wine I had. Really good one! My girlfriend had the “Duck” and she really enjoyed it as well. Presentation and attention to detail is something that I wasn’t expecting and surprised me. We then shared the Roasted spicy Pineapple with ice-cream, which I felt it is a quite ambitious recipe. Very interesting as concept and flavours but presentation wise you end up eating the ice-cream as a soup because it melts very quickly on top of the roasted pineapple. Unique and different though, we liked it. Overall we had a really nice time and we definitely going again. The prices are very reasonable and you definitely get value for your money. Service is discrete and to the point. Atmosphere, classy but relaxed and of course the food is fantastic. Highly recommended! Thank you!
