Souk Medina restaurant in London’s Covent Garden is the younger sibling of the enormously popular Souk Bazaar in Litchfield Street. Samir Mahdi has opened this substantially larger bar and restaurant around the corner where the exotic ambience, affordable North African food and vivacious crowd make Souk Medina an irresistible place to gather. In the subtly lit cave-like downstairs restaurant diners sit on colourful low seating and luxurious floor cushions gently lit by scads of twinkly tea lights. You will be transported. The cocktails are part of the charm of this place, as a thirsty after-work crowd can attest. Souk Medina’s exotic menu features favourites like kefta chermoula (meat balls) with herbs and spices, chicken tagine with chickpeas, cumin and harissa and the delicious chocolate and rosewater crêpes. If you just want a sit down and a natter in comfort, there’s also an atmospheric tranquil tearoom and candlelit cocktail lounge.

What is 'following'?The food is ok - small portions, but it is far too dark to read the menu. We went as part of a big hen group. We clearly ordered the menu that we wanted and that was confirmed by the waiter. When the time for the bill came, it turned out that they planned to charge us for a menu that was 20 pounds per head more than we'd ordered; resulting in a bill that was £200 more than we were expecting. Clearly a trick that they try and pull on a regular basis. Luckily half the group were lawyers and were able to argue strongly that the bill was incorrect and they had to bring the correct one. Which they did eventually with bad grace. The obviously thought that as a group of women we'd not notice. They charged for the unasked for unbranded water that was on the table when we arrived - even the ones that were unopened, so make sure that they take these away and ask them to bring tap water in a jug.
There is no need to go to a place like this in London, there are many better places. It is a a tourist trap. The waiters think they are great, but they are obnoxious really.
The restaurant is very nice and unexpected in the heart of London but the management is quite frankly bullying. We went for dinner and after spending almost 100 pounds for 2 people, we were drinking the last bit of our second bottle of wine and the waitress came over and handed our bill. When we said we had the half bottle to drink they informed us that they needed the table and we can go and finish our drinks in the bar!!! After several attempts to get us out of the table, the manager came over and my boyfriend said he would not move until he finish and they could call the police if they had a problem. The manager then backed off. Very, very disgraceful behaviour!!!
POOR customer service and VERY rude waiter. Food was average and quite cold, I know the service charge is optional, so asked to pay the bill minus the charge, was informed that it is not optional and I have to pay - I know this is not true, waiter argued with me and was extremely rude. Spoke to the manager and was informed that the charge is optional. Will definitely not be going back here.
The setting is nice and so is the belly dancing.
Food is very disappointing as are the prices. Service was awful too.
Stick to some cocktails and starters and have dinner somewhere else
Moody unhelpful service. Food was average and took a long time to arrive. Restaurant in real need of a refurbishment.
I went for a friend's birthday with 5 other people and we ate from the set menu. The food, hospitality and feel was great. I will definitely go again!
