Barcelona Tapas Bar y Restaurant is a gorgeous, vivacious Spanish restaurant that’s a City of London favourite. There's fun in the air -- the splendid yellows, reds and blues of the decor, the vivid flavours on the plates, the unusual and intriguing wine list, and the jostling sociability of the smart wait staff all add up to a hugely enjoyable mix. The ground floor of Barcelona Tapas Bar y Restaurant offers both bar and table service, and is a terrific place to meet up at lunch or after work and sample some of the excellent - and rare - Spanish wines and bubblies. Barcelona’s mezzanine level is guarded by a Gaudi-inspired mosaic lizard and decorated with flamenco and toreador costumes. You can stick to your favourites from the menu, like chorizo, patatas bravas, and paella, or you can discover rare Iberian ham or broad bean stew with black pudding. Save room for the excellent cheeses.

15 St Botolph Street, (entrance 1 Middlesex Street), Aldgate EC3A 7DTI went there last week for lunch with a work colleague. Before we went we called in and booked a table stating that we have a 'Taste London' card.
The booking was confirmed by the restaurant by email.
We shared a set menu for £44 (£22 pp) thinking that we would have 50% discount. To our surprise the bill was for the full amount and we were advised that the card is not valid on other offers or set menus!
We tried to argue that what they call a ' set menu' was in fact a full price offer and the exclusion should not classify (we could have had cheaper individual main courses had we known their trick). We were called names and sneeringly advised that we should have known what 'TL' covers before booking.
At the end we did not pay the tip, which is included in the total, and the head waiter waited at the door for us to leave and slammed it behind us.
Food was average and what we ate was not worth the price.
The worst culinary experience we ever had!
We went here for the World Cup final, hoping to engulf ourselves in the Spanish passion and atmosphere and cash in on some great offers that the website promised.
When we got there, it was somewhat of a disappointment, completely understaffed, impossible to get a view of the big screens we had been promised and just to make matters worse; the offers (which were still advertised throughout and on the internet) were not be honoured. This was apparently because the World Cup Final is not a World Cup game.
After waiting a good ten minutes at a pretty quiet bar, the first beer turned up, but then we had to wait another ten minutes to pay for it, due to an incompitent bar man, who couldn't speak a word of English.
Injury to insult, the aledgedy fantastic tapas menu was limited to four or five dishes, which, as we had come to expect, took forever to arrive.
We did manage to lift the atmosphere of the place, but all in all the overall experience was very, very disappointing, most of this could be pinned on the manager, who seemed keener on looking after a small table of his friends, rather than the rest of the disillusioned, over charged punters.
Finally, a "optional" service charge was slapped on all of our bills, even single beers, which we had to go to the bar to order (see above for the excruciating waiting times), needless to say, we did not want to pay this and eventually managed to get it removed.
No stars out of ten. Rubbish service, inept manager, no offers (as promised) and not even an apology.
