Opened in 2001 by husband and wife team Eric and Sarah Guignard, The French Table restaurant is familiar to south London residents as the local dining destination. Even if you don’t live in Surbiton, you may have seen The French table featured on The F Word, in Gordon Ramsay’s quest to find the nation’s best local restaurants. Loyal clientele consider The French Table as their go-to for special occasions; friendly service and sophisticated food ensure repeat visits are mandatory. The menu here is a judicious mix of classic and modern French flavours, along with a handful of more exotic influences. For example, you could start with the very French roast wood pigeon with chestnut crust, celeriac puree and pommes dauphine; move on to the more modern hake with smoked haddock and saffron risotto, crispy quail eggs and black olive oil dressing, and then finish off with the distinctly Pacific Rim flavours of the passion fruit soufflé with kiwi sorbet.
