Smollensky’s on The Strand restaurant in central London near Covent Garden, theatres and museums, has long been known for its relaxed atmosphere, fun vibe and party spirit. It seems to be constantly buzzing with lunchtime groups, after-work drinkers, weekend families and lively late evening diners. Smollensky's food is British and Mediterranean and is mainly grilled-based fare. Simple and hearty it may be, but at Smollensky's on the Strand there's real attention to detail – all the meat is from grass-fed herds, for example, and the company makes its own marinades and sauces. With its unfinished brick walls and gentle, subdued lighting, this West End restaurant and bar is cool and unfussy, the perfect spot for simple, well-prepared food and a good night out with friends or work colleagues. The big, chatty wine list spans the globe. Weekend lunchtimes are dedicated to families, with an entertainer, goodie bags and free balloons for children.

What is 'following'?We went for New Year and it was utterly disappointing. The staff (especially the hosts) were rude, the atmosphere was tacky. They played sky sports all night in the bar. The only good thing was the steak.
If it wasn't for my lovely boyfriend's company it would have been the worst NY ever.
No wonder they get you to leave a deposit, as soon as you walk in you want to walk out. DO NOT BOOK THIS FOR NEW YEAR, YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Dinner 08.07.10
The Good:
-not busy so we were able to choose our own seats
-friendly waiter
The Bad:
-no one at the host desk so we spent several minutes standing waiting for someone to seat us
-Drinks menu is deceiving as it has liquor prices 'from £x.xx' so the customer is only aware of the cheapest type of any liquor
-my grey goose and tonic (£7.20) was served without a lemon, lime or any garnish and with a massive childrens straw, and I thought it impossible to make a bad G n T!
-automatic gratuities of 12.5% where our servers didn't deserve that much of a tip.
