Located in Frith Street, El Cantara is the epicentre of Soho's Spanish and Moroccan communities. Much-loved for its authentic fare, this is a true neighbourhood restaurant where people meet to share good food, good company and lots of laughter. We love El Cantara for its eclectic crowd, welcoming atmosphere, shisha terrace, and menu filled with classic Spanish and Moroccan dishes. Favourites include the charmoula sardinas – oven-baked sardines served with a mixed herb crust; the Jawaneh – grilled chicken wings in a fragrant orange and paprika marinade; and the Moroccan lamb tagine. El Cantara has a wine list with bottles from Spain, France and Chile which is annotated with helpful tasting notes.

What is 'following'?Great food! service was excellent! we had the barcelona feast witch was great value for money. and the terrace was a nice finish to our evening with the best shisha i have ever tried ( they do champagne and sangria shisha as well :)
Went to El Cantara last night and really loved it, it was a friends birthday party and they couldn't have been more accommodating, food was great large portions and tasty, service was excellent and the flamenco dancers are well worth a look. Great night thanks El Cantara will definitely be back!!!
I went there with positive expectations.....
I along with 7 others had the misfortune to visit here last weekend for a meal and can honestly say it was the most miserable overpriced meal I have had in many years.
Staff so grumpy it was almost amusing (almost..!) When we asked if we could choose from the normal menu or was the set menu compulsory, we were told in no uncertain terms
it was the set menu or a very,
very long wait.
The food was poor, and I have eaten far, far better Tapas in other more reasonably priced establishments.
Small Portion and nothing special whatsoever. Accompanied with some Tagine Vegetables which lacked taste big time and for £12.95 was DEFINITELY not worth it. When asked if we wanted dessert, i think it was our cue to leave. At £30 a head for the bill, I would much have rathered gone to Nando's down the road and ordered 2 whole chickens, which i am sure would have been more tasty and filled me up at least!!!!
People, please think twice before opting for this restauant choice. You have been warned!
On a recent visit with a group of friends, we were looking forward to having an enjoyable meal with some fun entertainment at El Cantara in Soho. We had pre-booked a table and was told upon arrival that we were going to be charged full set menu price per person for no-shows considering that we had confirmed that the numbers were going to be slightly less than previous initial booking over the phone. After negotiating with the manager, we managed to reduce the cancellation fee. However, the start of the night was yet to come...whilst in the middle of tucking into our starters, we felt water being sprayed all over the table including our food from the ceiling. When we made the complaint, they told us it was a leakage coming from their kitchen pipes and assured us that the water being sprayed all over us was clean. We were not convinced, and a few of us went upstairs to do our own investigation and discovered that one of the toilets was based just right above our table and the toilet was leaking; the floors were soaking wet and there were cracks on the floor. After a second complaint to the manager, they left us sat there offering no apology or an alternative table until we kicked up a fuss. Then they moved us to another table and we ended up waiting a whole hour for our main course. After several chasing, they kept saying that it was coming. The main courses were not to standard and the portions were not enough to feed a group of 15 of us. I was promised that the lamb tagine was going to be swapped with the chicken tagine during booking and this was not the case. The food was cold and tasteless. Then the bill came, we were offered no discount considering our starters were ruined from the water being splattered all over from the ceiling and had to pay a considerable amount including unsatisfactory customer services. This is the worst dining experience ever and i would definitely not recommend it to anyone who wants a good night out.
