Literally my favourite chain of restaurants there is. All the food is extremely tasty & incredibly reasonable no matter which branch you go in. If you go to the Covent Garden one then prepare to queue at peak time! Luckily their cocktail selection is worth a bash while you wait. From the amazing burritos to the pulled pork everything is incredibly tasty! Even the crunchy salads make your mouth water. Quick, yummy, not pricey & I challenge anyone to not leave satisfied. Mexican food at it's best in the capital.

With an increasing variety of good, moderately priced restaurants in and around Covent Garden, this large basement branch of 'MasterChef' winner Thomasina Miers’s Mexican ‘street food’ chain is nowadays healthily rather than unpleasantly busy.
As at the other branches, decor is deliberately, cheerfully, market-stall bright. It matches well with the tapas-style sharing ethos that makes Wahaca popular with families.
At night, the buzzy atmosphere, decent tequilas and Mexican beer (served also in chelada or michelada beer-cocktails) appeal to local workers and tourists.
Although fairly enjoyable, a meal here seems like Mexican ever so slightly out of focus: ‘British steak, the Mexican way’ (slivers of steak with green rice, spring onions and house salsas); a quesadilla of new potatoes, broad beans, peas, feta and mint; a chicken taquito with tomato and Lancashire cheese; ‘baja cheese’ made from farmhouse cheddar and mozzarella.
Still, service is swift and bustling yet warm, and the menu is very approachable.
Choose between ‘platos fuertes’ (main dishes such as burritos or a succulent pork pibil) or ‘street food’ (small plates to share). Puddings include the welcome but unsurprising churros, a passionfruit cheesecake and dulce de leche ice-cream.

Ate here for the first time the other day. Queue was long. Bar was packed. Serving time was okay. Food was bland. Overall is was pretty mediocre experience.
The two other tables in the otherwise empty restaurant arrived much later than we did and were finishing their meals by the time our dishes arrived. Not worth the wait. The food was underwhelming and the staff unorganised. Overall a tiring experience.
Mexican street food served in a jazzy restaurant at restaurant prices is an oxymoron. Brixton market is streets ahead...
I too am surprised by the negative reviews. I am continually surprised by the originality and high standard of the seasonal menus. One thing I would say is that a buritto is a buritto! the quality of the individual components are often lost by stuffing them in a tight wrap. And although they are a great on- the- go lunch I feel one must wahaca's renowned street food menu to fully appreciate the restaurants worth
Typed my review, hit 'Submit' and got the message: "Steady on, that's too much text! Please keep it under 3000 characters" OK. I'll edit my text and try and post it later. But I suppose it could be summed up as: "Not one of the greats"
I actually felt that this place was over priced for the quantity of food on the plate. However I enjoyed the ambience of the placed and idea for tapas is fun for big groups! The quality of food was standard to canary wharf; neither bad nor outstanding!
After reading the reviews, I had high hopes for this place, but it was, meh... at best. For starters, the guacamole was obviously, from the color, not made that day, as the menu advertises. It was just mixed with a lot of lime juice to become that kind of tan-green day after stuff with the brown top mixed in with the tan bottom instead of fresh guacamole. Also, the chips were not good at all-- they were really grainy/corn-mealy in texture. I had the huevos rancheros for a main as it was noon on a Saturday. The whole thing was covered with raw red onion bits-- in what part of Mexico do they cover their huevos rancheros with raw red onions? bleh! Also, the chorizo was overrun with a chipotle flavored sauce. Finally, the fried egg was then baked with the beans, salsa verde, chorizo, and tortilla-- giving the egg a baked egg and not a fried egg texture-- which is totally different. Definitely not authentic Mexican food here, but it is the best Fake-xican food I've had in London so far-- hence the second star.
Reasonably priced, excellent range in the menu; perhaps the portions were a bit small. Overall though the staff were amazing, very friendly and fantastic knowledge of the menu. Not many places to sit when waiting for a table and the deserts were a bit if a let down, but overall would recommend.
Ate here Saturday night as a party of 14, which given the popularity was no mean feat in itself. We arrived early, as instructed and the staff promised us they would try to get us a table all together. A short wait/drink in the bar (quite expensive, but not overly so by Covent Garden standards) later and we had a table to seat us all together. Our waiter was enthusiastic and got most things spot on (a couple of drinks failed to materialise, but he made good on that). The food was amazing. I've never been to Mexico, so I don't know if it was truly 'authentic', but it was certainly more so than Americanised "Tex-Mex". But one thing I am sure of was it was very tasty, good value (£19.95 for a two person street food selection - plenty of food for 2 - only one of us could manage a dessert after!) and the atmosphere was great. Mexican beer and Tequilas were good too. All in all a great evening.
Ate here last night for the first time - I had the chicken burrito but it was very hard to find any chicken in it, it was mainly a wrap of green rice. Which was tasty, but got boring. The food is cheap, but I don't think it is reasonably priced. I was disappointed.
The people leaving negative review here quite frankly need to see a doctor. Where else in London can you buy fresh, interesting and exciting Mexican (read real Mexican not American Mexican) food at such value, great staff and great tequila, two can eat your fill for £20. Outstanding.. the only thing pretentious is the negative reviewers here.
I am surprised at the negative reviews about Wahaca. What is wrong with these people. Great street food; excellent staff and good atmosphere. I have lunched their with my family and it is great to try new flavours and I have yet to have a disappointing dish. Did your latest reviewer really expect Thomasina Miers to be at the restaurant and did that detract from the experience.
I feel like I'm missing something with all the negative reviews here. I've always had great meals at Wahaca. It's the 'chain waiting to happen' in my view - price is pretty much on par with the high street chains but something more exciting and I've always found the food pretty delicious. A great place to get a selection of market food to share...
Disappointing. Was sold by Thomasina Miers appearances on TV cooking Spanish/Mexican food. Shame she was not there on the evening to oversee. The flavours were not really special and the salad veggies, chopped up and served with everything tasted like they had been cut the night before and were left sitting around. The salsa had far too much water that had run out of the chopped ingredients and again tasted like it had been sitting around for ages. Fillings were mean, so you can't really say they were value for money. I had to hunt for my pork in the burrito I ordered. And why is everything served with corn chips and salsa. Far too much relied upon the added chillies in everything, which just gave heat but no flavour. I'd rather have a burger from a burger van, that would be closer to the taste and freshness of streetfood.
Terribly disappointed! Being Mexican I was quite excited to take my friends to try some real Mexican food, Wahaca’s food is OK-ish, not the best but equally not the worst, just flat nothing special. The tostadas where tasteless and the esquites tasted like Indian food. The decoration feels cheap and lacks originality. The staff was terrible. I didn’t feel welcome at all. I won’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend it.
