Andrew Barton Salon

He may be a celeb and TV favourite, but there’s nothing intimidating about Andrew Barton’s eponymous salon – his Covent Garden venue is his friendly ‘home away from home’, with stylists and clients alike gabbing away to each other over tea and biscuits in an uber-relaxed setting, complete with strokeable flock wallpaper puppies. When not on shoots with the likes of Lily Allen, Andrew’s in the salon for just two days a week, but if you’re in need of a one-off transformation, his Andrew Barton Makeover is well worth the £510 for cut, colour and finish. He’s also built up an exceptional team that includes colourist AJ Blackadder, worshipped by beauty editors for his bespoke, seasonal trend-led services – forget dip-dyes, its all about colour panelling, blushing and monochromatic blondes (from £102).

*** Not What I was Expecting *** After my hair had actually been hacked at by my hairdresser of 15 yrs. An appointment was booked at this salon. Time was taken to ensure that there were NO Conflicts Of Interest, as Mr Barton was an associate of my previous hairdresser, I had forgotten my colour patch test, when I contacted the salon to say, I was assured that it would be no problem !!! £100.00 deposit was paid, with a further £400 to be paid. I left the salon in tears and 3 1/2 hrs early for my train back home. Not once was I referred to by name, only as "ere", as in, give 'er her money back, when I HAD TO ASK for my deposit back. . . . Please tap into Google "Hairdressers being sued in Swindon", that's where this tawdry tale begins.
I had my hair done (Men's cut) with Matt Creasey earlier today - hands down the best cut I've ever had. Matt was amazingly meticulous and proved himself to be, without a doubt, at the top of his trade. The skill and passion this salon has is second to none, which leaves me confused as to why there are some dismal reviews here. The salon itself was quiet, played tasteful music, and was very friendly. Take my word, this place is amazing.
I didn't experience the problem most previous comments mentioned about making appointment through phone because I made mine through the online appointment system on their website. It's pretty convenient, I mean, I made my 12pm appointment at 4am that morning! You can see all the available time slots and the stylists, look at the price (and pass judgments by looking their photos) without feeling the pressure from the other end of the line. ;) It was amazing, the experience, the haircut, etc.. The stylist (Matt) was professional and knows what he's doing. He understood what I wanted, and was able to incorporate his expertise into the concept and determine how best to achieve it. This is what's best with good stylists: they deliver to you something better than what you wanted in the first place. He was generous with the time spent on each customer, down to the end with the blowdrying, even though he was running a little tight with time. He made sure that you'd look good when you walk out the door. At the end of the session, he even suggested what he thought would look good on me in the future, if I want to grow my hair out. Amazing, right? On top of that, and on an unrelated note, I hate small talk, and he didn't try too hard to make conversation, which was good. So overall, I'm just extremely please with the whole experience. Definitely worth a try! Don't be put off by the one-star ratings that comes from making appointments (I mean, come on!), it's rather unfair and doesn't give enough credit for the great haircuts you can come out the salon with.
I tried calling to book an appointment and was put on hold, then hung up on. I tried emailing and never received a reply. Maybe they're great, but their gatekeeper has the place on lockdown.
Tried getting an appointment, was not too impressed: a lady told me she'd put me on hold for "one minute" and 15 minutes later I was still on hold, in the end I just ran out of patience.
I visited this salon a few months ago. Everyone in there was great bar one person, (who was a senior colourist). I thought that he intimidated the guy that was doing my hair. Full of such self importance and arrogance and thought he was the bees nees to be honest. His advice, or should I say lecture on what I should do with my hair was contraditory. He told me I would suit one colour and then when one of his clients arrived, said this is the colour I was referring to, which was totally different (or maybe Im just colour blind). I have a good feel for peoples aura and I just could not get away from him quick enough. The rest of the team seemed very nice and I was pleased with my cut (the guy who done it has since left but I dont think he was free to exert his talents). Wont go back in case I bump into the horrible guy again.
