There is little point in comparing Battersea to Harlow or anywhere else outside of London simply because the vast majority of buyers simply dont do these sort of distances and many may not even have cars. Each car boot has its own catchment area dependent on location, local public transport ,residential density etc.Only a rival would try and compare one in south London with one in the wilds of Essex,a better comparison would be say to compare the one in Chiswick with Battersea but even this is pushing it.

I was there last Sunday and I am sure that the sellers who turned up ,did so because they paid the pitch fee in advance and wanted to try and recover it no matter what the weather which limited selling time to around 2 plus hours and kept the buyers away.Thats life with open air car boots and more so in the winter season.Dont forget also that there is massive competition from the likes of Primark so dont bother trying to sell clothes/shoes unless they are nearly new and clean failing which take them to the tip if the local charity shop turns its nose up to them.In short you need to be able to provide bargains/good value to make money no matter what you are selling.I have given examples of prices in other posts, last weekend I saw a new Burberry wool scarf for £10,a cashmere sweater for £18 from a very decent label in mint condition and was aware that Primark cashmere starts at £40.If you are selling this sort of quality and only need to cover historical costs then you should be able to make the experience worthwhile for yourself .If you bring junk you will only end up bringing it home or trying to sell it by the bag for 50p at closing time!.The one at Hammersmith has still to open and may need to generate some publicity /awareness before it is ready to start.

HI THERE I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I DONT THINK BATTERSEA CAR BOOT SALE IS A WASTE OF TIME, AS I ONLY BUY GOODS I THINK ITS A RIP OFF TO GET IN, PLUS THERE ARE THE SELLERS THAT ARE ALWAYS THERE, ALSO THE ITEMS THAT PEOPLE ARE SELLING IS FAR TO EXPENSIVE, WHAT HAPPENED TO CAR BOOT PRICES..........THIS IS NOT THE ONLY CAR BOOT SALE AROUND...YOU SHOULD TRY HARLOW

I am certainly not connected to any car boot, but like to try different ones in london which is why i looked at this thread. There's no need to be so rude Rob, we are only stating our views as you like to state yours, this thread is not for your sole use!!! Battersea is the most expensive one in London for sellers and that is the point we are making! We are not rival organisers, just keen booters.

I wish I was on commission but I am just a regular visitor/buyer who is into decent car boots having been a street trader and a seller at Battersea in the past.I am also a helpful person with time on his hands willing and able to contribute my knowledge on this thread even to people like you who I suspect are connected to other boot sales,so please piss off as I dont need your slurs on my goodwill.

Ye I agree. Rob seems to know an awful lot about battersea and plugging it all the time so he must be on a commission!! All car boots are the same in that you have to make money to cover your pitch fee but £20 to £25 is taking the mickey!
