The Time Out Shopping Awards recognise outstanding achievement in London retail, from leftfield boutiques and slick interiors stores to high-street classics, a 400-year-old shoemaker's and everything in between.

We scrutinised store concept and stock, customer service, interiors, pricing and each shop’s overall shopping experience. Although we focused on the capital’s world-class independent shops and boutiques, we picked out a few of our favourite high-street stores, too.

From this shortlist we picked the nominees, but you picked the winners in our online poll. Nearly 2,000 votes were cast. You also told us what other stores you love, including high-street stalwart Marks & Spencer and contemporary fashion store Zara, plus lesser-known gems such as interiors boutique Plate Tableware and vintage stores Circa and The Girl Can’t Help It.

The 2008 nominees for Best Vintage/Retro Store strike me as a little too predictable; some of those stores (Annie's in particular) are trading off of past glories and did not deserve to be shortlisted.
Come on TimeOut how about a fresh perspective!
    Any suggestions for 2009's nominees?

I think it's time to add some ethical stores to the list such as Howies on Carnaby Street. They do top notch cool organic clothing that I love.

Have your say
