The essential label for Italian aerobics junkies, Freddy‘s first UK branch opens in Covent Garden
Italian label Freddy began as a small line of frou-frou dance and gym shoes, but soon grew into a fitness heavyweight – with the muscles to prove it. Founded in 1976, by the mid-’80s Freddy was the essential label for Italian aerobics junkies who got physical in its simple jersey shirting, footless tights and cute legwarmers. After launching two successful Tokyo concept stores last year, Freddy’s first UK branch, just opened in Covent Garden, is three huge floors of airy brightness. Housing Freddy’s own line of sportswear – slouchy sweats at their finest – vintage-looking sports equipment and a family of tutus swinging from its rails, its curious lack of testosterone is the antithesis of high street sports stores. Freddy is also official outfitter to the Italian Olympic team and La Scala Ballet, plus we’ve also heard rumours of an upcoming project with the Royal Ballet here in London.
