much better than the west end/ oxford st/covent grd, is Brick Lane. There are some really cool stores that are at the very forefront and cutting edge of fashion. Best is Dray walk next to the Old Truman Brewery, where you will find Folk, Son of a Stag, Traffic People, Rough Trade, Junky, all of which are supa cool. You can find everything for guys and girls. Folk are amazing and Son of a Stag is the only place if you want best jeans ever. The great thing about this area is you get better choice, better service and virtually no crowds. Although not advertised, it seems the stock in the shops has already been marked down on sale- so it is x-mas sale 2009 rather than christmas sale 2009 or January sale 2010 when all the best stuff has gone. There is also the new Albam store round the corner the road in the new Spitalsfield market.

To be absolutely sure of finding what you looked for, I would recommend buying a cheap tent and camping on Oxford Street over night. 6am is not early enough.
Make sure you bring a barbecue and you will be able to cook up a delicious dinner.
I would also recommend ear plugs.
