Gieves & Hawkes isn’t just about fine tailoring; it’s also a history lesson for anyone interested in the development of men’s clothes. Despite having held royal warrants without interruption for 200 years (the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles are all customers), the company continues to innovate. It offers three services: the beautiful ready-to-wear collection starts at £595, while its made-to-measure service starts a little higher, at £895; handmade bespoke is the premier service – it’s a long procedure (we’re talking months), but you’ll eventually take home a luxury handmade garment made to your exact measurements and requirements.

Beautiful store by the quintessential British brand offering a range of stylish ready-to-wear and made-to-measure suits. If you feel like spending some proper money you can also book an appointment with one of their tailors who will create you a fully bespoke suit (this option is also available to women by the way!). It is located on 1 Saville Row - by far the best address in London for any menswear brand that takes itself seriously. Definitely ask for a tour of the Archive Room upstairs where you can find the uniforms of the Queen's bodyguards beautifully displayed in a see-through wardrobe as well as Lady Di's jacket. Even if you're not in a spending mood, it is still worth popping in if only to discover the treasures held by the Gieves and Hawkes archive room.
