    The shelves are full of fascinating bits of art and design, from glass sculptures given to Martin in exchange for website design, to clusters of coloured perspex samples from past design jobs.

    Martin bought the bulk of his tiles in white, from Johnson Tilesbut made use of free single colour samples to add a feature panel of colour.

    The shelves were made by a friend out of builder's board wood - which does the job and is far cheaper than wood.

    Orange is the colour that stands out in Martin's office, too, where iconic Penguin Classics line with favourite feature: a shelving system by German designer Dieter Rams.

    'All these samples were free, but they're perfect for adding colour,' says Martin, 'My style is typically quite hard and clean, so I have to consciously think: "How can I soften it up?"'

    Martin buys his textiles from Dalston Mill on Ridley Road, E8. 'It really rewards those that are willing to rummage,' he says.
