The best health, beauty and grooming shops in London
91 Mount Street, London, W1K 2SU
Number 31 in the full list
Aesop has come a long way from its late 1980s Melbourne roots. Its simple packaging – and natural-inspired products – has made it a quiet success in the skincare world. Its shops always seem to pop up on a street that has a certain ‘buzz’ about it – in London it shares Mount Street, an old jewellery shop, with Lanvin and Marc Jacobs, and Redchurch Street with APC where its classic products, reeking of geranium leaf or parsley seed, sit on rough hewn wooden shelves – the antithesis of clinical-looking beauty shops. Curzon Street, London, W1J 5HQ
Number 71 in the full list
These traditional Mayfair man-pamperers have been clipping, shaving and grooming London gentlemen since 1875. From Curzon Street and Duke of York Street barbershops, Trumper offers both a range of fragrances and grooming products (aftershave balms, razors, shaving brushes) as well as a range of treatments from wet shaves to manicures and facials. A Shaving School – a one-to-one session with a barber – lays bare Trumper’s tricks of the trade, while a chiropody service will buff sir’s bunions discretely in a private cubical. This is retailing from another era: small, family run and unashamedly old fashioned in its values. Read more about G Baldwin & Co
25-27 & 31 Stroud Green Road, London, N4 3ES
Number 81 in the full list
Founded almost 30 years ago, this African and Afro-Caribbean emporium is a London hair-care institution. Appropriately then, the shop is parted down the middle: Pak’s Hair Centre is packed with hair and beauty products from big names such as Aveda to more obscure, specialist brands, while the Wig Centre glistens with wigs, weaves and extensions, fake ponytails and hairpieces in a rainbow of colours. 15 Neal's Yard, London, WC2H 9DP
Number 94 in the full list
Those instantly recognisable blue-glass bottles are still going strong. It’s been 30 years since Neal’s Yard got ahead of the curve with its organic skincare and aromatherapy treatments, and many of the same products are still loved today; its rose moisturiser being one of the favourites. It should also be noted that shopping here is an extremely relaxing experience – which is all down to the well-informed, helpful but not overly pushy staff. Read more about Neal's Yard Remedies
