This three-level, three shop operation is a sanctuary for serious record collectors in an area short on decent options. Out on the Floor itself is in the basement and stocks guitar music - there's a particularly interesting selection of heavy metal seven-inches and plenty of punk, prog and 1960s and '70s rock. The ground floor hosts Up at Out on the Floor, home to a well-chosen collection of 12-inch reggae and 1960s soul and a limited array of CDs. Despite the unwieldy name, hand-drawn psychedelic signs for the 12-inches give the place a particular charm. In between the two floors is Backroom Records, catering to the upper end of the collectors' market with a greater emphasis on poster art and silkscreen prints.
