The Moscow Games of 1980 was marred by a boycott in protest at the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, which meant that only 80 nations took part. Despite this, the games still had memorable moments including the battle between Great Britain's Sebastian Coe (vest 254) and Steve Ovett (vest 279) in middle-distance running. Both took golds in races where the other was the favourite. Since his retirement, Sebastian Coe has worked in politics and is the current chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee.
