Marshall Street Leisure Centre
Marshall Street
Located just off Carnaby Street, this elegant Art Deco pool is one of central London's best kept secrets. Originally opened in 1931, the stunning grade II listed building has recently been restored to its former glory after an £11 million redevelopment. The pool is a good size – 30.5 metres with three lanes – and features a spectacular barrel-vaulted roof and marble tiles. Spa London, the brilliant affordable spa chain also owned by Better, have facilities here featuring thermal suites; two aroma rooms, two saunas and a relaxation lounge. Book in for a City Salt Scrub or a massage, wrap or facial with scrummy Elemis products.

Hidden in the very heart of London, Marshall Street Pool is an absolute Art Deco gem that I have used for a couple of years. Not only have I always enjoyed my swim, but unlike other pools I enjoy the experience of stepping back in time and gaze at the architecture and details that the pool offers. This is probably why I prefer doing breast stroke here, as I have time to gaze at the barrel vaulted roof and marble tiled walls. The pool itself is a decent length and unlike other pools that have a rubber bottom that can rub your feet, this is all marble which makes my feet skim and not rub. (It's the little things that matter, right?)

My advice overall is to enjoy your experience, not just the swim, and if you can go during the day, obviously it's quieter and consequently more enjoyable.
