  • First staged to mark the accession of the new monarch in December 1936, the three-mile King George VI Chase on Boxing Day is the main attraction at the Stan James Christmas Festival. The roll of honour for this Grade 1 race reads like a who's who of steeplechasing, including Arkle, Wayward Lad, The Fellow, See More Business and four-times champion Desert Orchid. After successive wins in 2004 and '05, Kicking King could be a worthy addition to that list while Kauto Star is this year's ante-post favourite. If you buy an advance paddock ticket for £25 your admission also includes a drink, a bet and a racecard.

On Wed 27, the Desert Orchid Chase will gather some well regarded two-mile chasers hoping to collect some Order of Merit points. And admission to Sat January 6's 'Twilight Racing' meet is free courtesy of series sponsor digibet.com.
