Call me a grumpy old medieval-minded bitch, but I don't think this is much of a moniker. The play was indeed birthed from a website, on which users contribute embarrassing stories of the 'and then I pooed in the birthing pool' variety; in return for permitting their humiliation to be (anonymously) refashioned by five young playwrights, they get sent two stories as 'insurance'.
It all sounds terribly low rent, and in fact it is: the biggest prop here is a pram. But the writing is sharp and the zealous quartet of young troopers adeptly switch characters, accents and registers at top speed. Hugh Skinner is particularly good, which may be why he's lumped with inhabiting the shrivelled soul of a Westlife fan; he and Felix Scott also hold the funniest boyfight since Colin Firth and Hugh Grant messed up each other's hair in 'Bridget Jones's Diary'. Some of the gaffes are predictable - fat slag strikes out with boys - some hysterical, such as the a cappella sexfest (four characters, four varied but uniformly sticky situations). And a few are dauntingly serious, which takes courage to include and to execute. But they work, so the dignity of actors, contributors and even audience members, is relinquished in an excellent cause.
