  • Sue Bird
    deputy manager, Royal Court
‘It’s not easy to say what I do. As deputy production manager, I’m responsible for our upstairs studio theatre, but there’s always other things to do as well. I can show you my to-do list for yesterday.’

    – Try to hire forgotten lighting kit for ‘Sugar Mummies’ tour.
    – Buy six tonnes of sand to recreate a beach.
    – Hire an industrial-strength vacuum to clear up the sand.
    – Call around venues for the ‘93.2 FM’ tour, checking crew numbers, cue lights, parking, operating positions, etc.
    – Email Mexico about a touring show; the stage won’t take the weight of the set.
    – Rewrite company schedules for ‘Krapp’s Last Tape’ (twice).
    – Hunt around shops for elusive orange carpet/felt/fabric/whatever we can find for a set we’re building on Monday.
    – Return calls from a worried assistant director.
    – Organise filming of Royal Court shows.
    – Panic over lack of work I’ve done for European Writing Forum.
    – Phone back woman from Time Out. Sorry, I was busy. Feature continues

Is this the sister of Katy Bird, Theatrical Electrician/lighting expert who got nothing but flak because she was a female doing a "man's job"?
I hope she's rolling in success and laughing now..she was awesome!

Don't all you Brits know by now that Suzi Quatro can handle anything? She's from Grosse Pointe and survived it!
