  • Forgive us for banging on about LCD Soundsystem again, but after witnessing their recent Cargo show we’d be doing you a disservice in not ordering you to one of these gigs. New album ‘Sound Of Silver’ adheres to vaguely the same raw, bass-heavy electro-punk as their scene-shaping debut. But live? Amazing. It’s first class, funky machine music and as tight as Faris Rotter’s trousers . Expect much of the new LP, including an epic performance of the New Order-like ‘All My Friends’, plus old faves like ‘Daft Punk...’ and ‘Yeah’, to be aired at an impressive speed (and volume).

On Wednesday night you can party until 1am, but after Thursday’s early finish (10.20pm!) beware. LCD gigs attract cool cats and hedonists, and so, in a cynical move to cash in on both, a gig at Madame Jo Jo’s featuring London punk scenesters Clay Machine Gun is claiming to be the ‘unofficial aftershow’. This is no more LCD’s ‘unofficial aftershow’ than going home for a cup of camomile tea, where the music will probably be much better.

If you can’t get tickets for LCD, how about those Princess Di-approved, calypso-tinged proto-punk-funkers and mainstays of the super-hip new wave label Ze Records Kid Creole And The Coconuts? They’re playing Jazz Café Wednesday to Friday and after 25 years they’re due a reappraisal. If you’re still searching for a good time, you could do a lot worse.

Have your say
