When it comes to festive atmosphere, pedestrianised Carnaby Street and its environs have really got it right for the past few Christmases, with a creative take on illuminations and a cosy villagey vibe that puts you in the mood for parting with your money. The Yule installation for 2012 makes the most of the street's musical heritage, harking back to its '60s heyday, with decorations inspired by the fiftieth anniversary of the Rolling Stones (the band rehearsed for their first live shows round the corner in Broadwick Street and were regulars at the original Carnaby Street boutiques). The nature of Carnaby's 'lights' (they're installations rather than illuminations, so they're already in place) makes the celebrity switch-on redundant.
