On July 1 1745, the Court of Assistants of the newly formed Company of Surgeons met for the first time in Stationers' Hall – a landmark moment that would lead to the creation of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. At this lunchtime talk, Vishy Mahadevan traces the origins of the surgeons and barbers, the development of the Company of Barber-Surgeons and the events leading up to their separation.
