Time Out says

Hildreth Street market in Balham is having a major facelift as £350,000 is spent to reinvigorate the short street for shops and cafés. Trees and lighting will be part of the package provided by Wandsworth Council in an attempt to turn it into a food and drink destination like Venn Street in Clapham, which has a similar and hugely successful makeover in 2011. Shopkeeper Julia Michael, who runs the Wine Tasting Shop on Hildreth Street, told us ‘We’ll be able to serve wine at pavement tables. It’s really exciting and will change the area for the better.’ Kim Sullivan of Wandsworth Council told us ‘We’re planning to create a café society on Hildreth Street. There are only eight licensed market stallholders at present, but this can be increased for special events’. Other businesses in the area that will benefit include the café called M1lk. The works begin in February 2014 and will last until May 2014, and are part of a £1.8 million council rejuvenation of central Balham.
