The past year has been a momentous one for London: sit-ins, strikes, demonstrations, rioting and royalty. The year ahead promises much drama of its own with the mayoral elections in May and the Olympics in July. In the meantime here are some stand-out images from an unforgettable twelve months.
November 30. More than 500,000 protestors take to the streets in opposition to the government's plans to reform public sector pensions. Schools close, refuse is left uncollected, and libraries and day-care centres close early as thousands of civil servants go on strike. A 'damp squib'? Not in London, Prime Minister.
