Important travel information

  • Buses

    Diversions will affect the following routes: 3, 6, 9, 9 Heritage, 11, 12, 13, 15, 15 Heritage, 23, 24, 29, 53, 87, 88, 91, 159, 176, 211, 388, 453.

  • Underground

    Lines are scheduled to function fully, although stations close to the procession route might be closed due to overcrowding, with Charing Cross and Victoria stations the busiest on the day. The lifts at Green Park station will be out of order on Friday 29 April, exit at Westminster station for the nearest step-free access. On the day, check www.tfl.gov.uk for real-time transport updates.

  • Cars

    No congestion charge as it's a bank holiday.

The day's timetable

  • 8.15-9.45am

    Most of the 1,900 guests arrive at Westminster Abbey; distinguished guests arrive at 9.50am.

  • 10.10am

    Princes William and best man Prince Harry leave Clarence House for Westminster Abbey.

  • 10.20am

    Katie's mother Carole Middleton and brother James leave the Goring Hotel.

  • 10.35am

    The minor royal party, including The Princess Royal, The Duke of York, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice and The Earl and Countess of Wessex leave Buckingham Palace for Westminster Abbey.

    10.38am

    The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall leave Clarence House.

  • 10.40am

    The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh leave Buckingham Palace.

  • 10.48am

    The bridesmaids and pages leave Goring Hotel for Westminster Abbey.

  • 10.51am

    Kate Middleton and her father, Michael, leave the Goring Hotel.

  • 11.00am

    The marriage service begins.

  • 12.15pm

    The carriage procession of the bride and groom, followed by the Queen's procession, leave the Abbey for Buckingham Palace, arriving at 12.30pm. Other members of the Royal Family arrive at 12.40pm.

  • 1.25pm

    Kate and William seal their wedding with a kiss on the palace balcony, surrounded by the Queen and family.

  • 1.30pm

    Flypast by the Royal Air Force and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
