An exhibition of sexually explicit paintings, prints and illustrations produced in Japan between 1600 and 1900, known as shunga. Mostly made within the school of ukiyo-e, known in English as 'pictures of the floating world', the images can be funny, tender or beautiful but have become increasingly taboo over the last century. This exhibition aims to answer some key questions about what shunga is and what role it plays in the history of Japanese art and culture.
