As well as the serious stuff, London has seen some pretty wacky goings on this year. From the popular mass dress-ups to pop-up boating lakes. In no particular order, Time Out salutes the weird and wonderful and takes a look back at the more unusual things Londoners got up to over the past year.

Santacon

Hundreds of game Londoners don the famous red suit and descend onto the streets to spread goodwill and cheer in December. The annual Santacon event started in San Francisco in 1994 and now occurs in cities worldwide. According to the Santacon website the largest gathering of Santas was 70,000 in Moscow in 2006.
