The issue with Monument is depicted very
well in the description above. “Monument Station. Location pin: Bank”.
Are you in Monument, in Bank, in the
middle? Who knows! Only the recent 6 months of commuting made me a pro at this
station, regularly helping disorientated tourists find their way. “I want to go
to Monument for the District. It’s here? But it says Bank.” Sigh... This
station is in fact a confusing maze of stairs and corridors between two
different stations that were not designed nor built to be merged.
Bonus points: one exit leads directly
to the actual Monument and you can change for almost every line (including the
Waterloo&City and the weird brother of the tube system, the DLR).
Minus points: because you can change
for almost any lines, queues! And the previously mentioned maze you’ll only
master after months spending loosing yourself in the crowd, going from one
platform to another desperately seeking exit 8.
