International street food options fill a Shoreditch car park with great food and a fun crowd
A Shoreditch car park is transformed into a food-focused party for this weekly night market which features a revolving cast of traders. Dishes from all over the world are served from stalls and trucks; regular options include Venezuelan beef arepas (maize flour flatbreads), vegan hand-made pasta, Brazilian chorizo wraps, Belgina waffles and the ubiquitous (but undeniably delicious) pulled pork in a soft brioche bun.
Organiser Jessica Tucker (who's a City lawyer by day) knows that visitors are likely to get thirsty what with all that eating, so the bar's stocked with craft beer, cider, wine and even champagne. A cocktail stand offers a selection of fruity options, too. Events are often themed, with free cocktails for all those in fancy dress – check the Urban Food Fest website to see what's coming up. Entry is free. The food, of course, is not.
Urban Food Fest is open from noon until midnight.

Went to UFF with a group of friends after reading about it in Time Out and Evening Standard. Word on the street is that the events are really fun...so we gave it a go last week. We had a large sharing table and met some other really cool people. Trendy crowd, very Shoreditch vibe. Food was top quality especially the Italian piadina salted ham flatbreads. 10/10 and better than I've had in Italy! Also very good was the giant pulled pork sandwich with toppings for a fiver. Super cheap. Also on my hit list was the lemon fresh mint cocktail which had a cute neon straw and fruits inside. Cocktails change each week and I've been recommended the pomegranate for next time! Will definitely be back! The event is often Time Out No.1 event and I can see why!!
Absolutely love it. Brilliant fun. Last weekend we had quinoa burgers with sides salads from Peru and chicken arepas from Venezuela. For dessert we had salted caramel brownies and the famous biscuit chocolate salami slice from Portugal, with a couple of bottles of beer. I'd recommend strolling around and looking at all the options and then sharing the generous portions. Best food selection I've seen and the few times we've been, there are always totally new food options to try out.
Top night in Shoreditch with the girls. Atmosphere was vibrant and buzzy and the food was so good! The Pimms jug was a great touch in the autumn sunshine. I like how the Urban Food Fest had thought of all the little things, like adding its Twitter page and Facebook, for people to tweet and post about the event. The website is also super cool. Foodwise: try the indian street food wraps and the Korean rice burger, really spicy and different. Drinkwise: either the cider or the Pimms. Will be coming in Beatles fancy dress this weekend!!
BEST STREET FOOD EVENT I'VE BEEN TO IN LONDON THIS YEAR AND REALLY DESERVES ITS BRITISH STREET FOOD AWARDS NOMINATION. I WOULD ADVISE ALL VISITORS TO TRY THE FOLLOWING: THE ORCHARD PIG CIDER AND ELDERFLOWER DRINK FROM THE YELLOW BAR. TO EAT: BISH BASH GERMAN CURRY WURST AND POMMES, RED PORTUGAL'S PASTEL DE NATA CAKE AND MEI MEI STREET CART'S JIAN BING CREPE (APPARENTLY A SPECIALITY CHINESE STREET FOOD!) THE EVENT IS UBER COOL AND SO MUCH FUN! :-)
10/10 event. Recommended Urban Food Fest to all my friends who went the following week and also had a brilliant time. The huge variety of food stands is amazing. I tried Peruvian skewers which were incredible, of course the famous frogs legs which tasted like chicken and for dessert I had a chocolate crepe which was one of the best Ive ever had! My friends had chorizo scotch eggs which they loved and the pizza from the cool monster van. They ate grilled fruits for dessert which they have never had before. The best part was the gorgeous bar girls and the elderflower cocktail with rum. The girls had cider which they loved and they had a great ale. The drinks were very cheap for Shoreditch. Thanks TO for listing this event! Im going back this week!
Nowhere near how it sounds. A tiny quad, literally a small concrete car park, of food vans that you see throughout London these days, with hardly any seating. We had to sit outside on a brick wall facing the main road to eat. Once you've had your burger/wrap there is nothing to do, no 'live' music or other distractions. Bar is just a drinks stall. So unless you live just down the road and want to pop in, for some nice, not exactly cheap burger/wrap (£6-7) there's just no point travelling to get there. Trust me, honest review, not a troll. London up and coming food scene is better than this.
Great location and variety. The vibe was very good with a friendly crowd.
The reason for the low score is that I got food poisoning after eating a vegetarian hotdog from Japadog! I know they are the culprit as I didn't eat anything else! I hope they read this because it is a sign of poor hygiene and food safety standards.
My husband had the seafood paella which he enjoyed and had no negative side effects, which says a lot.
We took our son so we had the pushchair which made it tricky to navigate to all the food stalls.
Worth taking a look as its free and a good way to pass the day.
Top quality event it was not. Food from the Galicia truck was excellent, although pricing was a bit suspect.
Why oh why would Urban Food Fest feature on Eventbrite, ask to download tickets when NO ONE actually bothered asking?
There were TWO muppets, presumably security, but resembled badly dresssed tramps.
One section was not open, that was the covered Ex petrol station bit, the other was completely open to the elements, that we finished our scallop/chorizo chow and scampered to the inviting warmish safety of the Shoreditch Food Village, where they actually have HEATERS!
Urban Food Fest, never again!
Really cool vibe, great quality food for decent prices, been a few times and there's always something new and quirky to try out. Definitely worth a visit
Was OK...not much choice for the vegetarians...I struggled! let alone vegans...so me and my friend didn't have a lot if choice. Not as big as described...not quite a festival vibe etc...more like a few meaty food vans gathered together in a clearing also not sure what was so "urban" about it. The burger van on the left was good..great paneer! but yeah a bit disappointed!
Cheap prices (cakes about £2 and main courses all £5 or £6) which is good value as each dish is hand-made and cooked in front of you from fresh ingredients. The vegan truck had tasty a noodle dish.
- Very overrated event. Was expecting entertainment from the multiplicity of reviews claiming a positive experience. However upon arrival was greeted with 10 maybe 12 food trucks flaunting their wares at extortionate prices. Definitely not worth the visit. Shame.
Brilliant event. Amazing food, ice cold drinks and great crowd, all round good night out with my mates. The lives bands added a cool vibe. Best thing i ate had to be the frogs legs from Geaux Cajun. In second place was Galbi Bros Korean ramen burger. Never had it before and really liked it. The guys serving were cool too. To drink try the ale or the craft beers. Didn't have dessert as the portions were massive.
Great event with a fantastic atmosphere! Really great variety of food and drink. I had the Wood Fired Oven Pizza it was amazing...the van was amazing too!! Great night with a group of friends - will definitely be going again to try more food!
There seems to be an amazing shift towards more healthy eating as people become aware of the importance of Nutrients. Here are some of the things which are becoming more popular: http://pinterest.com/bigsands/what-to-eat-how-to-choose-a-diet/ It would be great to see more of this at the next Urban Food Fest or Taste Festival.
Oh this place is absolutely buzzing, it was packed, you could see why as the food was so good also the sun was shining. A small group of us went and i decided to try the Caribbean stall. I think it was Golden Sunset, OMG!!! simple the best I've tasted, I had the Jerk chicken, rice and peas with salad and the amazing sauce. My hubby had the mutton curry, so tasty succulent and tender and my mum had the home made Jerk burger, very very tasty all round , Their food is a must the pizza was had by my brother and he loved it. Beer was cheap and bar staff did a good job. Check it out!!! We will defo be back.
Very small area for so many people, some stalls had run out of food by 7pm, and the bar was just a few guys selling drinks out of the back of a car with no idea about how to serve people. Shame because the food looked pretty good and the atmosphere was buzzy - there were just too many people for the small space. We went down the road to Yalla Yalla, sat straight down and were served delicious Lebanese street food - so all worked out in the end.
Always an impressive selection, the macarons are good especially the oreos and I tried grapefruit flavour. Seating area is fun. Cool crowd and the band Dollface were very good. Thanks for posting Time Out - love this event.
AMAZING FOOD, GREAT BANDS... I ROLLED OUT OF THERE! WAS SUCH A GREAT NIGHT WITH MY FRIENDS. BURGERS ARE THE BEST & THE CHEAP BEER!
Great place, the only problem is what to try next, a feast of taste and flavours.well worth the trip, just leave enough time.
I love food events so what's not to like about this. Good food events are always busy and expensive but it's fine if you got time and money
My husband and I went to this on Saturday and had a great time! We only popped in for a drink in the afternoon and ended up staying until 11pm! The live music was excellent and it was a a fantastic atmosphere, with a great choice of cocktails, beers and Ciders. The food choice was outstanding and many different offerings from around the world. My personal favourite was the pancakes with ice cream filling!! I had Marshmallow, Belgian chocolate and Honeycomb ice cream - it was to die for and I can't wait for my next one! My husband loved the Taiwanese food and had a pork dish with noodles - much healthier than Chinese. I would certainly recommend this event and we can't wait to go back!
Best event in London: best food and drinks. Prices were very good, between £1 and max £8, average about £4-£5 for a MASSIVE portion of amazing freshly cooked street food. One portion is big enough to share. Drinks very well priced too and very unusual cool selection.
