Time Out says

First dates: for many of us, a bit of a drag – what with the awkward small-talk, lengthy silences and moments of panic when you wonder if they’re ever going to come back from the loo (or is that just us?) But this Easter, dating site Doingsomething.co.uk is on a mission to resurrect the love lives of solo Londoners.

On the evening of Easter Sunday, a group of singles will descend on Holborn for, if all goes to plan, the world’s biggest ping-pong date (Guinness World Records will be in attendance). 300 guys and 300 girls will head to underground table-tennis emporium Bounce for a night of fun, flirting and four-play. The thinking behind the mass date is that, according to the minds behind Doingsomething.co.uk, it’s much easier to get to know someone by doing an activity (ahem) with them, rather than by talking – a plus for the conversationally-challenged everywhere.

For those unfamiliar with Bounce – reputedly built on the site where table tennis was actually invented in 1901 – its 12,500 square foot space is home to 17 tables, around which there’ll be a succession of group tournaments. Along with the games-making (and making of eyes), there’ll also be cocktails, plus music into the wee hours courtesy of DJ Pete Pong. Players will also get a chance to try out the venue’s brand-spanking new UV ping-pong parlour – cue mandatory giggles at your partner’s fluorescent pulling pants.

For those with a competitive streak, there’ll be a grand prize on the night for the single that demonstrates the best (ping-pong) ball skills. So there’s still a chance to win, whether or not you score.
