How do you feel about being one of our heroes?
‘I was flattered to be asked. When I saw the other list of heroes I was amazed – I mean, to be next to Kathy Burke is really great.’
Personal favourite moment in London?
‘When I used to get the train down from Sunderland as a teenager using a £15 voucher from the local paper. I’d call it "market research". I used to dress up and go to Bond Street and Sloane Street and pretend to be shopping for my very wealthy mother. I used to go to Chanel and get all the look books – once they even gave me a bag. It was very funny going back on the train to Sunderland with it!’
What’s the future of fashion in London?
‘London is always going to be about the new and the exciting. Unfortunately it’s one of those places that [fashion] business doesn’t really come to. I’m sure it will always be the place where things are happening. I’m showing in Paris from next season but I still want to live here and work here.’

What does Time Out mean to you?
‘It’s the first place I read about Kash Point and Nag, Nag, Nag back when it was a group of my friends and a load of drag queens going. Time Out is like a bookmark in time. It’s indicative of what’s happening in London at one particular moment in time. It’s quite amazing.’
Complete the sentence: London is…
‘…a lot smaller than you think. If you know where you are going and what you are doing. Read Time Out – it brings it all together.’
