What’s it like to be a Time Out hero?
‘I’m thrilled to the marrow. I haven’t been this excited since I got stuck in a lift with the Chippendales.’
Who are your London heroes?
‘So many to choose from… let’s say Ken Livingstone and Tony Benn on the sensible side and Steve McFadden if I’m feeling silly.’
What’s the biggest thing that’s happened in your field?
‘Since alcopops were invented and recreational drugs became so readily available in the capital, people seem to find my jokes funnier. The arrival of The Comedy Store and the comedy circuit has also played its part.’

What’s your personal favourite moment in London?
‘I was at Koko’s in Camden Town watching Boy George perform last year when Amy Winehouse leaned over the balcony and waved and smiled at me, her beehive wafting around like some gorilla’s arm. It was like being kissed by the Pope.’
What’s the future for your field in London?
‘I expect the jokes will get bigger and better. I do hope Londoners still feel the occasional need for a tired old homo, though.’
Complete the sentence: London is…
