You’ve been chosen as one of Time Out’s all-time London heroes… How do you feel about that?
‘I know I work hard, and I believe in myself a lot, but looking at all the other people that have been chosen, I didn’t think I’d be one of the heroes. It’s crazy that I’m one of them.’
What’s the biggest thing that’s happened in your field in London in the last 40 years?
‘My parents and their parents were raised to do one thing and be good at that, but in 2008 we are definitely the ‘mish-mash’ generation where people aren’t afraid to do ten different things at once and they can be good at all of them.’
What’s your personal favourite moment in London?
‘When I was walking around the streets of London and they were so shit, there was no good ground for me to skateboard on and suddenly I found this long, long road in Brixton and it was the smoothest pavement I’ve ever been on in my whole life. I threw down my board, skated down the whole road and it was great being surrounded by all the south London architecture and listening to my music. I just loved London that day, I felt like it was such a beautiful place and I was happy to be here.’

What’s been your best London party?
‘The best parties are at The Macbeth pub in Hoxton. I was wearing an all-in-one black catsuit with gold bits all over it.’
What does Time Out mean to you?
‘It’s different from everything I read. I know a lot of young people that read Time Out, but not the kind of young people that want to go out and get fucked up on K and go to one random club night. It’s more for young people that are interested in culture.’
London is…
‘Some parts I find really boring, like walking through the City makes me want to punch myself. But London is beautiful as well… I love it.’
