How does it feel to be chosen as Time Out London hero?
‘Massively honoured and flattered. Time Out helped me immensely when my DJing career was just starting out – when I was putting on illegal parties 25 years ago – and it documented my teenage years. I feared the media and didn’t want to be exploited. I had a blanket “no media” on my flyers, but Time Out was one of the few who were allowed. It had its finger on the pulse.’

    Complete the sentence: London is…
‘…the best city in the world for a lot of things, particularly what I’m involved in – music, parties. We’ve got edgy fashion here, edgy art here, some fantastically creative people who get inspiration from living here and go on to change the world and the way we look at things, what we wear. Acid house could only ever have come from England, because we don’t have summers and we live on top of each other in confined space and it’s a case of make do and mend. We’ve got a great DIY culture here, and I’m a product of that. London’s built on a vibrant street culture to rival anything to come from America, youth fashion, music, art… it’s unrivalled.’ Feature continues
