Just Do It: a Tale of Modern Day Outlaws
Sun Dec 15, 10-11.30pm, Community Channel
From the outside, a rag-tag group of protesters can look like a chaotic and disorganised mess, but ‘Just Do It’ does an admirable job of elucidating the logistical and organisational side of activism. Focusing on a small group of protesters, the documentary charts their progress at various protest camps, marches, sit-ins et al, as they strive against capitalism and try to change the world.
The interviewees are an affable and articulate bunch, who believe passionately in their cause and want to see real change through direct action. Their efforts aren’t always, or indeed often, effective, but their dedication and zeal is commendable, especially when faced with the intimidating presence of law enforcement. A balanced and impartial documentary this is not, but the insights are absorbing – their business is about far more than traffic jams and public transport disruptions. Just don’t expect it to provide an imminent solution to the world’s ills.
