Episode one
Shack-dwelling Brolga loves kangaroos. He loves them so much that he’s shirked comfort, mod cons and human contact to live in his own kangaroo sanctuary, which took him well over two years to build. Whether he’s nursing a joey or crying plaintively to his beloved long-footed marsupial brood, everything Brolga does is for his kangaroo family. He even shares saliva with the joeys, without a hint of revulsion or shame.

‘Kangaroo Dundee’ is a fun, light-hearted offering with all the depth of a particularly shallow puddle (can this really be a six-parter?), which embraces the cute side of kangaroos, while also providing insights into their reproduction, diet, behaviour and development. Of course it’s also a character study, and Brolga is sufficiently eccentric to make this aspect a success. Plus, it also teaches us the valuable lesson that watching a kangaroo called Roger chase a 6’ 7” man around a bush is very funny.
