Episode one
‘We’ve had the Stone Age, we’ve had the Iron Age. This is the Pissing About Age.’ And how. Sky TV spring yet another globetrotting jolly for Britain’s jammiest bleeder, Karl Pilkington, in which he brings his homespun blend of bullish blokiness and naifish wisdom to bear on Life’s Big Topics.

In this opening episode, the world’s various attitudes to marriage comes under his wonky lasers. Jetting off to Delhi to India, our pedantic Passepartout casts his eye over arranged marriages in Delhi, which he concludes to be somewhat overblown and lacking in the magic spark of romance. Indeed, in a phrase that will live long in many a viewers mind, he compares the unknowable chemistry of attraction to a Heston Blumenthal creation: ‘He puts shit together that shouldn’t work, doesn’t he – a Viennetta with a Yorkshire pudding on top. It shouldn’t work, but people love it. It’s nice innit!’

The closing stretch that sees him take in a pheromone dating party in the cosy confines of a dimly lit conference centre in LA and a drive-thru wedding in Las Vegas lag a little, but Karl remains boisterous enough company to ride out a decent hour’s entertainment.
