From the team behind ‘Killing Lincoln’ (including Fox News demagogue Bill O’Reilly), ‘Killing Kennedy’ also traces two near-parallel lives on their dual trajectories all the way to a world-changing collision. Joining John F Kennedy (Rob Lowe, not disgracing himself) and Lee Harvey Oswald (Will Rothhaar, likewise) in 1959 as one ascends to the Presidency and the other considers moving to Moscow, it takes an awfully long time to add nothing at all to an endlessly scrutinised story.

The protagonists remain opaque, their wives suffer stoically and clunking exposition abounds, from the opening line (‘Morning Lee – what’s in the package?’) to JFK’s admonition to his wife (‘I want you to be very careful around that Onassis character’). To its credit, ‘Killing Kennedy’ has little time for conspiracy theories and brandishes its careful research at every opportunity. Dutiful, but deadly dull.
