Is television stepping into a breach vacated by law-enforcement? This show starts with claims from senior police officers that last year 90,000 people either skipped bail or broke their licence conditions. Worryingly, the Old Bill doesn’t seem to have the resources to do much about it.

Thank heavens for Natasha Kaplinsky then who, in conjunction with ITV, is going to save the day. No previews were available of ‘On the Run’ but apparently Kaplinsky and Mark Williams-Thomas will be teaming up to search for three wanted men – a sex offender, a burglar and an unspecified but glamorous-sounding ‘international fugitive’ (has Kaplinsky located Lord Lucan? Now that would be a scoop).

It all sounds a bit dodgy really, although as the man behind last year’s Jimmy Savile ‘Exposure’ film, Williams-Thomas has form for making useful and intrepid TV.
