The Apprentice
Wed Jul 3, 9-10pm, BBC1
‘We literally need to smash this.’ ‘We have so totally something to prove.’ Never let it be said that this year’s candidates want for motivation as the endgame approaches. This week is the commodities task – aka ‘smell what sells’ – which has so foxed past competitors: the teams are given £150 each to buy stock for market stalls, then reinvest the takings in more of the big sellers to flog from a posher shopfront the following day.
One team opts for fashion and the other for high-end homeware in a contest which looks one-sided from the outset. The customarily devious editing and narration plant enough seeds of doubt, however, leading to another memorable boardroom showdown and one candidate having a ‘moment’ that goes down as one of the all-time ‘Apprentice’ classics. Next week – interviews!
