The People’s Coronation with David Dimbleby

Didn’t we do all this last year? Well, yes actually. BBC4 treated us to an hour-and-a-half of Coronation nostalgia in 2012; David Dimbleby’s at it now, marking 60 years since Liz took the throne with this surprisingly lively look back at the great day and the preparations that went into it. Dimbleby’s insider knowledge helps: his dad Richard fronted the TV coverage that made up many people’s first experience of watching the gogglebox.

And Dimbles Jr doesn’t just talk to the toffs, doing his research and chatting with ordinary folk about the ways in which they chose to celebrate (or not, entertainingly), lending the venture a certain homespun charm. But all this is by no means essential viewing. Surely even Elizabeth II must be sick of watching/reading/hearing about oneself by now.
