Menier Chocolate Factory review Rate it

Menier Chocolate Factory is for those after a West End theatre experience without the Leicester Square-factor. Southwark's off-West End theatre has an impressive history of high-profile transfers, from 'Fully Committed' to musicals such as 'La Cage Aux Folles' and 'Little Shop of Horrors'. Don't be put off by the dearth of eateries along Southwark Street - Menier is perhaps the classiest of all fringe venues offering great meal-deal tickets: a glass of wine, a bit of dinner and, of course, a play.

The food is good I'll give them that and the waiting staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble. The cafe/bar manager however would do well to learn something about customer service from his staff.

We went for a bite to eat and a few drinks for a friends birthday, however when we asked if they could possibly make a special cocktail for our birthday friend the manager looked at us with disdain, said nothing and pointed at the bog standard drinks menu. When we asked if there was something a little more special they could do he again looked down his nose at us, sneered and said "there's a bar down the road that does that sort of thing".

Considering the 5 of us had been in the bar approx 1½ hours and at that point spent in excess of £100 a little civility wouldn't have gone amiss. After this we drank up, paid up and left. You can be assured we will neither be going back there again, nor be recommending the bar to anyone else.
