Dominated by the surrealist's 'Mae West Lips' sofa and an oil painting created for Hitchcock's 'Spellbound', South Bank attraction DalÌ Universe features Salvador DalÌ works including sculptures, watercolours (including his flamboyant tarot cards), rare etchings and lithographs, all exploring DalÌ's favourite themes: dreams, fantasy, femininity, sensuality, religion and mythology. A café serves organic fare amid large portraits of the moustachioed master.

I had alwasy intende dto visit Dali Universe since it first opened at County Hall. Finally made the trip today. Having walked right round the building looking for a sign, I made it inside only to be told by the security guard that it had closed about two or three weeks ago. It's a pity that teh Time Out entry doesn't make that abundantly clear Luckily tehr eis so much else going on at the South bank that it wasn't a wasted trip, but some advance notice would have been nice! At least I got to have a look inside the building where I worked when it was the GLC.
